Awakened True Power Super Saiyan Gohan (Youth)

Awakened True Power Super Saiyan Gohan (Youth), also colloquially known as AGL LR Gohan, is an extremely versatile unit. As of writing, he is on thirteen (13) categories, fitting well and having good linking partners on each team. His art is pulled from the iconic scene where Gohan first goes Super Saiyan 2.

This unit is a transforming unit, going Super Saiyan 2 when the requirements are met. AGL LR Gohan was a very controversial unit at the time of his release because of his transformation requirements. AGL LR Gohan can only transform under one of two conditions:

  1. HP is 58% or less and there is an “Android #16” on the team.
  2. HP is 58% or less with an existing “Androids” category enemy or ally starting from the 5th turn from the start of the battle.

The transformation is an active skill, and so it can be foregone if desired. Due to the very difficult transformation requirements, this unit was expected to be DOA, but it was quickly discovered that AGL LR Gohan is a beast, even without having to transform.

Slide to see AGL LR Gohan’s art pre- and post-transformation.

What makes this unit so good is his categories, his passive, and his super attack effect. Pre-transformation, Gohan infinitely stacks defense on his Ultra Super Attack and Super Attack. This makes him an unstoppable tank. His passive. also gives him an additional 100% attack and defense right away, and another 1 Ki and 10% attack and defense per turn (up to +5 Ki and +70% attack and defense). This means he gets stronger every turn.

Post-transformation, he only raises defense for one turn on Super Attack and attack and defense for one turn on Ultra Super Attack, but he keeps all of his stacks from pre-transformation. So what makes his transformed state so good? His passive. He receives 20% attack, 7% defense, and an additional 1 Ki per Ki orb collected, Randomly changes one type of Ki sphere to rainbow, launches an additional Super Attack when facing multiple enemies, and gains an additional 59% attack on Ultra Super Attack when there is a Super Saiyan Goku attacking in the same turn.

His categories are:

  • Hybrid Saiyans
  • Full Power
  • Transformation Boost
  • Goku’s Family
  • Youth
  • Super Saiyans
  • Androids/Cell Saga
  • Kamehameha
  • Bond of Master and Disciple
  • Super Saiyan 2
  • Exploding Rage
  • Rapid Growth
  • Desperate Struggle

(Remember that this list is as of time of writing and may grow as more categories are added to the game).

Although this unit was expected to be DOA, due to Awakened True Power Super Saiyan 2 Gohan (Youth)’s immense power pre-transformation, he had proved to be one of the best units in the game, and definitely one of the most versatile units, even a full year after release.

Explosive Super Elite Vegeta

One of Vegeta’s first big moments in the anime was his Galick Gun against Goku’s KaioKen Kamehameha. This card, Explosive Super Elite Vegeta, is sometimes called “PHY Galick Gun Vegeta” due to him being pulled directly from that scene. This unit used to be sub-par until he received his recent Dokkan Awakening. Although this Vegeta is strong, he is only very strong in certain situations.

Explosive Super Elite Vegeta

Vegeta’s Leader Skill gives 3 ki and 120% to stats to the Vegeta’s Family Category. He is the second-best leader for this category (with LR SSJ4 Vegeta being the best), but he is great to have on the team if you couldn’t pull the LR, or even in addition to the LR. He also gives3 ki and 90% to stats to PHY type.

Vegeta’s passive is where things get interesting, as it makes him very good in certain situations. He gains 1 ki and 60% ATK every turn if there is a Goku’s Family Category enemy. This makes him very powerful in long battles against Goku’s Family enemies, like I said, certain situations, quite specific, but quite good. He also gives himself 6 ki and 60% DEF when HP is 60% or less. Again, this helps in longer battles.

Vegeta is on the following Categories:

  • Pure Saiyans
  • Dragon Ball Seekers
  • Vegeta’s Family
Vegeta using Galick Gun in the Anime

This Vegeta is definitely a great card to use when going against any Goku’s Family unit, especially if you think that it will be a long battle. He is also a pretty decent leader if you could not manage to pull the LR SSJ4 Vegeta or STR Majin Vegeta, but if you have those units, they all work well together anyway. Vegeta also works well on an Extreme PHY team. One of the reasons that Vegeta works so well on so many teams is that he gives himself so much Ki when his health drops below 60%.

Dreadful Super Fusion Super Saiyan 2 Kefla

Super Saiyan 2 Kefla (SSJ2 Kefla) is an extremely interesting card when it comes to bombarding the enemy with attacks. Just like when Kefla first appeared in DBS, she does not back down and does a lot of damage. SSJ2 Kefla is also a leader for the Potara Category, a Ki-changer, and a nuker. Kefla is definitely a well-rounded, does-just-about-everything-type, unit.

Super Saiyan 2 Kefla

Kefla’s Leader Skill gives the Potara Category 3 ki and 150% to all stats. She is the second-best Potara leader (with LR Super Vegito being the best), but she does hold up on her own due to her passive. For one, she is a ki-changer. She changes all INT ki spheres on the field to PHY ki. Plus, she’s a nuker, meaning that she gets a boost for each ki sphere she absorbs. In this case, she gains 12% ATK and DEF per ki sphere absorbed. She also has a 25% chance to evade attacks. Lastly, but not leastly, she always launches an additional attack with a 50% chance to have it be a Super Attack. Oh, and her Super Attack lowers the enemy’s DEF.

So, as I said, SSJ2 Kefla may not have the best stats, but she can do a little bit of everything, making her very valuable. Her nuking capabilities in tandem with her ki-changing capabilities make her hit very hard. Plus, her guaranteed additional attacks allow her to do even more damage, and can really save you if the enemy evades her attack. Also, being able to dodge a quarter of attacks is always helpful.

SSJ2 Kefla is on the following Categories:

  • Peppy Gals
  • Universe Survival Saga
  • Potara
  • Full Power
  • Universe 6
SSJ2 Kefla’s Attack from the Anime

If you manage to pull SSj2 Kefla, I definitely recommend finding a use for her on one of her teams, or even on a Super PHY team since she changes ki. Her passive is what makes her as good as she is.

Explosive Evolution Turles

Turles is a wonderfully unique card. He not only is a category leader with a transformation mechanic, he also is one of the best support units in the game. Much like Bulla, Turles provides 3 ki and 40% ATK to all allies. As discussed in Bulla’s plog post, this is an extremely useful support passive. But, as discussed earlier, what makes Turles so unique is that he is a support AND category leader. The last cool thing about Turles is how he transforms and how it relates to Dragon Ball Lore (in-game and out).

Explosive Evolution Turles

Turles’ Leader Skill gives the Movie Bosses Category 3 ki and 150% to all stats OR the Extreme Class 3 ki and 50% to all stats. Although he is the second best leader for the Movie Boss team (with Super Saiyan Broly being the best), Turles’ support passive definitely makes him worthy of using on a Movie Heroes team, whether the leader or just a member.

In addition to providing support to all allies, Turles’ passive also lowers Super Class enemies ATK by 15% and gives him a 25% chance to transform via “Fruit of the Tree of Might Boost” when HP is 80% or below. When Turles transforms into “Turles (Boost),” he loses his support passive and instead gives himself 130% ATK and DEF, recovers 15% HP, and lowers Super Class enemies DEF by 80%. This fits really well with the lore of Dragon Ball. The Fruit of the Tree of Might is the focal point of the Turles movie, but is also an item in Dokkan that gives Ki. So Turles holds the fruit, giving a boost to all team members, then he only boosts himself when he transforms (he eats the fruit).

Turles is on the following Categories:

  • Low-Class Warrior
  • Movie Bosses
  • Pure Saiyans
Turles (Boost)

Turles is definitely worth using as a Movie Boss Leader, or even on any team that he fits on, purely because of his Passive Skill. The only downside to this unit is that his support passive goes away when he transforms.

Shopping with Dad Bulla

Bulla is definitely one of the most underrated cards in the game. Sure, having cards that hit really hard with high Attack Stats and Tank with great Defense help to build a great team, but it is also very important to have good support units on your team. Where most support units provide anywhere from 20% to 40% ATK and DEF to a specific type or category, Bulla’s passive gives 3 Ki and 40% ATK to ALL allies. What Bulla lacks in her own stats, she definitely makes up for with her support passive. Her passive also gives her a +30% chance to evade attacks per Peppy Gal on the team (herself included) (up to 60%).

Shopping with Dad Bulla

This card’s leader skill gives 3 ki and 70% to all stats to TEQ and AGL type, so needless to say, you won’t be running her as a leader. But if you are running a TEQ team, or any category team that Bulla is a part of, you definitely want to try to fit her on your team. A 40% support for ALL allies is tough to come by, so when we find one, we definitely use it.

Bulla is on the following categories:

  • Peppy Gals
  • Hybrid Saiyans
  • Vegeta’s Family
  • Youth
  • Siblings’ Bond

The Peppy Gal category team used to be seen as a “Meme Team,” but has had better and better cards coming out recently. Shopping with Dad Bulla was definitely a great addition to that team. She also also great for boosting the hard-hitters on any of the other teams she is on (LR Majin Vegeta, LR SSJ4 Vegeta, LR Trunks, etc. on Vegeta’s Family; SSJ Gohan and SSJ Goten on Siblings’ Bond; LR Gohan on Youth and Hybrid Saiyans; etc.).

Bulla is not a card I would recommend chasing on a banner, but if you manage to pull her, USE HER. You will not regret finding her a place on your teams.

Miraculous Outcome Goku and Frieza (Final Form) (Angel)

This card is capable of achieving one of the highest attack stats in the game, if the circumstances are right. This card also has some of the coolest card art in the game. But the best part of this card, by far, is the Super Attack animation. It is pulled directly from the anime (DBS ep. 131), and this scene, in my opinion is one of the best moments in Dragon Ball, and definitely the best moment in Dragon Ball Super.

Miraculous Outcome Goku and Frieza (Final Form) (Angel), or just “GoFrieza,” introduced the Representatives of Universe 7 category, which they lead with 3 ki and 177% to all stats. They also lead TEQ type with 3 ki and 90%. Their passive gives themselves 77% ATK and DEF, plus an additional 77% ATK and DEF when the enemy had their ATK lowered.

GoFrieza is on the following category teams:

  • Representatives of Universe 7
  • Universal Survival Saga
  • Full Power
  • Joined Forces
LR GoFrieza
The Anime Scene

Due to this cards extremely high attack stat capabilities, it is a great unit on a TEQ team, as well as his four category teams, but unfortunately does not work well anywhere else.

Another interesting thing of note is that this card is the only card containing Frieza that is of the Super Class. This was the one time that Frieza was actually acting as a hero and working with the “good guys,” earning him the class of Super. Although, I am quite sure that Frieza would hate to hear that he has to share a card with a Goku of all people.

With this card being an LR, he is very difficult to obtain. If you manage to be lucky enough to summon him, I definitely recommend building a team around him. He’ll be worth it for sure.

Transcendent Fusion Super Saiyan Gogeta

The Fusion Dance is a piece of lore from that Dragon Ball franchise that has always fascinated me. In my opinion, it is way cooler than Potara (even if Potara does create a stronger fusion). So, when “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” was released in theaters this year and Gogeta was made cannon, I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. What blew me away even more was when Super Saiyan Gogeta transformed into Super Saiyan Blue (Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan) Gogeta.

Super Saiyan Gogeta (Pre-Transformation)

This card came to Global this past February alongside a Super Saiyan Broly Card from the movie. Gogeta is a dual category leader for “Movie Heroes” and “Fusion,” giving 3 ki and 170% ATK to both, and 150% HP and DEF to the first, 130% to the latter. His passive gives himself 100% ATK and DEF. It also allows him to be effective against all types and gives him 25% to evade (dodge) enemy attacks. So, as-is, he is a pretty good card, but it gets better.

Super Saiyan God SS Gogeta (Post-Transformation)

After 5 turns, Super Saiyan Gogeta transforms into Super Sayian God Super Saiyan Gogeta (“Gogeta Blue” for short). After transforming, his boost to self becomes 130%, his chance to evade becomes 50%, and he is guaranteed to perform a critical hit.

His categories are as follows:

  • Fusion
  • Realm of Gods
  • Transformation Boost
  • Movie Heroes
  • Super Saiyan (this category is JP-only for now)

One of the best things about this card is that he does not share his name with the older, but still good, “Super Gogeta” card, so you can use them on the same team.

Due to all of these things, Super Saiyan Gogeta is great to use on many teams and in many scenarios.

Welcome to Dokkan Card Reviewer

Hello and welcome to my blog where I talk about the coolest and the best cards in Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle. Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle, or just Dokkan, is a mobile game for iOS and Android based on the characters from the Dragon Ball franchise. The game was exclusive to Japan, but then later came to the rest of the world. Therefore, there are two versions of the game: the Japanese version (JP) and the version for everyone else (Global). I play on Global, so most of what I talk about will be from there, but I will reference some things on JP. Global is usually about 4-6 months behind JP when it comes to content, but occasionally Global will get some things before JP. There are also some version exclusives.

The game functions like a trading card game where you open packs of cards (summon on banners) with in-game currency in order to try to get rarer, and better, cards. You then form teams of cards to battle with. Cards have Leader Skills, Passive Skills, Link Skills, Categories, and Typings that should all be taken into account when team-building. Therefore, although a lot of the game is based on luck (“summoning” the best cards from “banners”), a lot of strategy is required in order to build good teams.

This is a Dragon Stone

The main currency in the game is the Dragon Stone. Dragon Stones can be purchased with real currency or earned for free in-game. A player who does not spend any real currency on the game is called Free-to-play (FTP or F2P) and a player who spends real currency on the game is called Pay-to-play (PTP or P2P). I, myself, am a FTP Player. Some people will spend a few dollars every-now-and-then on the game; we refer to these players as PTP-Lite or Goldfish. Some people will spend one hundred or so dollars every year on the game; this is the typical PTP Player. Finally, there is the Whale. A Whale goes all out and will sometimes spend thousands of dollars a year on the game. Whales tend to have the best units with the highest stats. You can still be FTP and enjoy the game, especially if you have good luck.

FTP can also refer to a type of card. Where a FTP Player is a player spending no real currency on the game, a FTP card is a card that can be obtained without spending Dragon Stones. Most FTP cards are low-tier cards meant for players who have not been playing for very long, but some FTP cards are as good, or better, than most Summonable Cards (cards pulled from banners that require the spending of Dragon Stones).

Types and Classes

There are 5 different types that a card can be:

  • Agility (AGL) [Blue]
  • Strength (STR) [Red]
  • Physical (PHY) [Yellow]
  • Intelligence (INT) [Purple]
  • Technical (TEQ) [Green]
Type Advantage Wheel

Each type is strong against one type and weak against one type. You can see, in the wheel above, which types have advantage over which types.

Types can then have a class added to them: either Super or Extreme. Extreme is used for characters who are considered villains and Super is used for characters who are considered heroes. If you are familiar with Dragon Ball, you know that there are many characters who were once villains and have since become heroes. One example of this is Vegeta, who has an Extreme PHY card (this card is reflecting the character from the Saiyan Saga) and a Super INT card (this card is reflecting the character from the Majin Buu Saga). But these are just two of many Vegeta cards in the game.

Sometimes a card will use its Leader Skill or Passive to boost all cards of a specific Type, and sometimes all cards of a specific Type AND Class. So, be sure to read carefully when team building.

Categories

New Categories are being added to the game all the time. A Category will be created at the same time that a card is released with a Leader Skill boosting that Category. Passives will sometimes also boost specific Categories. Categories describe attributes of the card’s character (ex. “Time Traveler” or “Goku’s Family”), as well as the specific moment in the franchise that card is pulled from (ex. “Future Saga” or “Movie Boss”).

Here are a few examples of the many Categories

Rarity and Awakening

There are several types of Rarities that cards can be in Dokkan. The rarer the card, the better the stats. Certain cards can also be Awakened to a higher Rarity using Awakening Medals. You can earn Awakening Medals as rewards by completing missions and/or stages. Characters can also be “Dokkan Awakened” with Dokkan Awakening Medals. After a character Dokkan Awakens, they become a different version of the character (ex. Vegeta may Dokkan Awaken into Super Saiyan Vegeta).

This Rarities, from weakest to strongest, are as follows:

Normal
Rare
Special Rare
Super Special Rare
Ultra Rare
Transcended Ultra Rare (tUR)
Legendary Rare

You may have noticed that UR appears twice, with its second appearance being tUR. Most SSRs Awaken into a UR, and then can “transcend the UR limit” with a Dokkan Awakening. These “transcended URs” are some of the most popular cards in the game.

Gameplay

There are many other aspects of the cards themselves not gone over above such as Active Skills, Transformations, Potential System, and more, but that should be enough information for you to get started playing.

When it comes to actual Battles, your biggest goal is to take down the enemy (quite obvious, but it had to be stated). If you want to do a lot of damage, you need to perform a Super Attack. Almost all of the character require 12 Ki in order to perform a Super Attack (LRs can perform an Ultra Super Attack with 18 Ki). There is a field of Ki randomly generated at the beginning of each battle and your goal is to collect Ki by tapping on a trail of one color. Each Ki orb gives the attacking character one Ki. If the Ki orb is the same color as your type, it gives you two Ki. Leader Skills, Passives, and Link Skills can all increase a character’s Ki.

How to collect Ki orbs

You can also use items during Gameplay to raise Attack and/or Defense stats, restore HP, increase Ki, and much more.

Reviews and Information

Hopefully you now have a pretty good understanding of how the game works. The rest of the posts on this site will be about specific cards in the game where I will review them and give general information about them. Happy Dokkaning!
